Palliative Care

We pride ourselves on the standard of palliative care (end of life care) offered within our Nursing Care Wing. Our Registered Manager, Karen, always ensures that residents and their families receive both our emotional as well as our practical support.

We work closely with St Wilfrid’s Hospice, MacMillan Nurses and the resident’s own GP to provide continuity of care, relieve any pain and make sure our palliative care is always dignified and appropriate. We will take a holistic approach and ensure physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs are all considered.

Our Nurses have all been professionally trained and are experienced in providing compassionate and respectful care with sensitivity and reassurance. Whether it’s medical pain relief, a vase of fresh flowers by an open window or a radio playing in the background, our staff will take the time to listen to find out what will make our residents more comfortable and keep them fully involved in decisions about their treatment and day-to-day life. We see residents visibly relax, become calmer and feel in control when they know their wishes and choices are being addressed.

We will offer tempting and nutritious meals and suggest personalised quiet activities if wanted. All our bedrooms are comfortable and we encourage personal items such as photographs or ornaments to be brought in to promote happy memories and a feeling of familiarity. Our pretty gardens are easily accessible and provide a tranquil setting for contemplation.

We welcome visitors at all times and will discuss the residents’ final wishes with all concerned in an open and honest manner. We want their time with us to be spent with dignity, free from pain, at ease with their surroundings and with loved ones by their side.
